Esports at Forest Lake SHS
During the emergence of Esports at Forest Lake SHS in 2020, discussions were undertaken around the possibility of an Excellence program. This Excellence program would target students interested in the multitude of career pathways available within the Esports industry. Whilst an extra-curricular club was already functioning and students were involved in a variety of interschool and external Esports competitions, to run an Excellence program, the school needed an Esports curriculum link.
Actions
Led the development of Esports as a new subject in the Year 9 and 10 curricula in 2020/2021, as well as developing the Year 7 Esports unit with inspired creativity to meet the data components of Digital Technologies.
Developed a Study Plan for the Senior Applied ICT syllabus through the lens of esports to continue this curriculum into the senior years and prepare students to undertake the Diploma of Esports at QUT.
Achieved the implementation and organisation of Esports club to involve a broader range of students in school culture and extra-curricular activities, including more than 20 excursions and competitions in 2021.
Involved teachers across a variety of Departments in Esports events to build teacher-understanding of the benefits and opportunities offered by this emerging industry.

In 2022, two classes of Year 9 Esports, a class of Year 10 Esports and a class of Year 11 ICT Esports are running alongside two Digital Solutions classes, and a Year 10 and Year 9 Digital Tech class. These enrolment numbers represent double that of 2020 before I led the implementation of the Esports curriculum.
Esports is being implemented as a club and/or curriculum across QLD now, in part due to my leadership in Esports curriculum and knowledge-sharing via PDs, workshops and Facebook.
