Project Details
As a school community, we want to attract great students to our school. Part of this effort relates to our Programs of Excellence (PoE) within the school that bring students from other catchments; Esports is now confirmed to be a Program of Excellence for 2023. However, other avenues for promoting the school in the wider community were lacking from the STEM perspective, we needed to reach our wider community with STEM offerings.
Actions
Collaborated with HoD Teaching and Learning to develop Esports and STEM initiatives to run for our partner primary schools to promote Digital Technologies at Forest Lake SHS and encourage future enrolments.
Developed relationships with the local schools by visiting each school for an afternoon esports session aimed at Year 4 and 5 students.
Results
Three local primary schools were involved in our first Esports Primary Competition Day at our school in December 2021, sponsored by ACS and the Gateway to Industry Schools Program (GISP).
A colleague and I were able to lead a full-day STEM workshop for Grand Avenue State School, providing their Year 4 teachers and students with STEM knowledge that they applied in their classrooms.
We strengthened our community relationship with the local EB Games, who sponsored prizes for the events.
The Esports Primary Cup will run again in 2022 with five schools involved this time for a larger event impacting more students.
